Make Nine – 2018

Last year Make Nine was a huge success for many. I thought I’d set out to do it but cannot find any reference to it in my social media accounts. I did make a Winter Makes List of 11 patterns I set out to make in 2017. I only made 4 of them. So this year I want to set down some specific goals and check in regularly to see how I am doing in achieving them.

All of the patterns on this list are patterns I already own. They are not in any particular order.

Brooke Dress by Rosie and Me

Brooke is a dress I found a few months back when looking for plus size patterns. I fell in love with it and immediately purchased it, however it has been on the back burner ever since. I definately need some work appropriate dresses like this, so I want to put this on my makenine list this year to ensure it happens. I feel this is a dress I can stash bust with.

Pepernoot Coat by Waffle Patterns

Another pattern bought on a Whim, this time I saw Pepernoot on Gaberdashery and thought it looked amazing. I have the trim for it, and possibly the wool (I have 5 metres of a small black and grey check but am undecided whether I will use this or not). I’ve made a few coats this winter so to be honest it will probably be made in Autumn of 2018, but you never know it may come earlier.

Reglisse Dress by Deer & Doe

I’ve been eyeing up this dress for some time, and now Deer and Doe offer PDFs in bigger sizes I snapped this up in the recent Black Friday sale. It’s fairly summery so plan on making this around March – May 2018 time. This is another dress I can see me making many of.

Prudence by Colette

Initially I wasnt fazed by Prudence but it has grown on me and I purchased this recently in their BOGOF sale. I’m not sure where I would get the opportunity to wear this maxi length dress, but I plan on making a shorter version – possibly to the knees or just below.

Morris Blazer by Grainline Studios

I bought this pattern well over a year ago when I saw Running and Stitches make one out of purple velvet. I also bought the velvet to make a similar one but that hasnt happened yet. I think I may get some black ponte for this and then it can double up as a work cardigan.

The Laneway Dress by Jennifer Lauren Handmade

I purchased this pattern some time ago – I fell in love with it as soon as it was released but I think the amount of pieces initially put me off. I’ve had this printed with Netprinter and it has something like 6 A0 pages! However, now I have paid for it I want to make sure to make it. This may be one of my sooner makes – I am thinking to make out of denim.

Take the Plunge Swimsuit by Patterns for Pirates

I bought this last summer, and have the fabric and notions ready to go. It never made it to the top of my list last summer but in a quest to further my skills as a dressmaker I have put it on my list for this year. I love the shape of this, it looks flattering and should accomodate my fuller figure.

Jedidah Pants by Thread Theory

I bought this for my partner about 6 months ago. I got half way through a toile and lost interest. I do want to complete them for him though. If only because he always scuffs the bottom of his ready to wear jeans because they are too long. I have a nice dark tan stretch twill that I can make them in.

Martha Dress by Tilly & the Buttons

I did make a toile of this when the first pattern came out and loved it, but it didnt fit me perfectly so I never pursued the dress. My skills have come a lot further now in terms of fit so I want to give this another go. I may change the neckline to scoop because I cant cope with too much around my neck, but otherwise LOVE this pattern.

To be honest, my list could have been a lot longer than this. However, I want to be realistic – I am also completing the Sew My Style challenge and with the two challenges together I think that should be enough promises of things to make for the year.

Thanks for reading, until next time,
